Print and discuss after the film, around the family dinner table or while you're out for a ride. Reading them before the film will help focus your viewing.

Excerpt from our WholeFamily review:

In the case of Phyllis and Lucky, it is clear that there is more to their difficulty in connecting than meets the eye and, indeed, their deep dark secret is revealed about halfway through the film. With Marianne and Jeffrey, however, one is never sure how much is there.

  1. What is Phyllis and Lucky's secret and how does it impact on your understanding of them?

  2. Describe Marianne and Jeffrey; not obvious superficial things, but as how they might really be. Imagine a past for them that would explain what they have become in the present.

  3. Explain the meaning of the title.

  4. What has this film taught you about the potential for positive and negative relationships in marriage?

  5. How did you feel at the end, when you left the theater?
