This disaster
film about a dormant volcano threatening to erupt is not just
about adventure. It's about public ethics, family conflict and
adults and children seeking love.

Harry Dalton
(Pierce Brosnan), a volcanologist, lost his previous love to a
volcano. He comes to a small town to check out the local volcano
and he and Rachel Wando (Linda Hamilton), the divorced mayor,
find themselves in a battle to convince the rest of the town council
and Harry's own colleagues that evacuating people to save lives
is more important than securing an 18 million dollar investment.
In the course
of the film the mayor's children try to rescue their grandmother
from the oncoming lava, the mayor tries to rescue them and Harry
tries to rescue everyone.
The cynic may
find the grand finale a little unbelievable, including the warm
and fuzzy promise of a happy new blended family on the horizon.
But, hey, what's wrong with happy endings? Not every film has
to be Bergman.
This is your
family's chance to have some fun and excitement watching spunky
kids and two adults with a cause braving the danger of a blazing
volcano, and demonstrating (and developing) a great deal of love
for each other in the process.
Incredible special
effects.
