Debt

We are in really bad debt. My husband is supposed to manage our finances. But he doesn't do it. So I try to. But he won't keep on a budget and he won't stop spending even though we are completely in debt. I want him to sit with me and make a budget and he says he doesn't want to feel like he's in prison -- so we go into more and more debt. He won't even write down his checks, so I can't balance our checking account.
Meanwhile, the bank calls and the credit card companies call. He handles them by paying off the interest.
Now he says that the only way we can get out of debt is to borrow money from my mother. My mother is a widow and though she has quite a bit of money, I don't want to borrow it. And I don't want to worry about paying it back -- or not paying it back.
My husband says that I am being unfair. He says it is unfair to him and the kids that we have to suffer while she has plenty. And besides he is still angry that my parents paid $20,000 for my sister's wedding. We eloped and now he says my parents should have given us some of the money they saved on our wedding.
I think he's being a pig. So now he's going into deep freeze. He won't even talk with me about money and says that he's got it under control.
When I suggest a debt counselor, he says that our credit rating is fine, and he will pay off the credit card bills slowly.
I should mention that we both have good jobs but we've been paying off student loans and credit card interest bills forever.
I am so fed up with him. I feel like he is so irresponsible.
What can I do?
