How My Spirit Sings

If only I could tell you
How my spirit sings
To the music that you are.
Something deep and throaty
And loving.

I wander deer trails,
The forest floor fragrant
With rot and with life.
I breathe the world of
Needles and leaves and petals.

Breeze in my hair
Sand in my toes
Water so cold I lose my breath,
Cleansing and bold
I am liquid and air.

If only I could tell you
How my spirit sings
To the music that you are.
Something high and rhythmic
And yearning.

I climb up, up
To where the blueberries grow
On the rocky ledges,
To weave myself with
The mountain and the sunshine.

I fly down
And swoop low over the water,
Rise high again, then dive,
Deep, deep into the clear green
I emerge glistening with light.

If only I could tell you
How my spirit sings
To the music that you are.
Something smooth and rich
And soothing.

I am caught by the wind
I groan and ripple.
The gusts swell and fade
Across and through me
As I tumble like a leaf.

Birch bark peeling
Like warm paper
Speckled and living.
My spirit sings,
I am filled with your music.
