My ten-year-old daughter pees in her bed about every other night. I know there are therapies I can try with her, but she is too embarrassed to go to the doctor and discuss her problem. I don't want to force her to go because I don't want to traumatize her. On the other hand, I think she may be suffering socially, since she refuses to go on sleepover dates. Also she sometimes refuses to shower in the morning and there may be a lingering odor of urine. I'm afraid the kids tease her though she claims they don't.
I don't get angry with her. I tell her it's a stage and that she shouldn't drink in the evenings. But nothing seems to help.
Her father was a bedwetter, and the doctor told me that bedwetting was genetic. So I am trying not to worry too much about it. (Although I am tiring of the constant laundry.) Am I being too complacent about her problem? Should I insist that we go to the doctor or a special clinic? Or do I let her ride it out?
