Fun in the Sun:
Summer Activities For Your Pre-Schooler
By Esther Boylan Wolfson

Looking for a way to keep your pre-schooler busy during those
long summer days? Here are some suggestions for easy summer activities.
Make homemade ices. (You can buy very
cheap ice molds or use small cups and old Popsicle sticks.)
Juice or Hawaiian Punch both work great.
Take ice cubes out of your freezer
and put the bowl outside in the sun. Have your child check it
regularly and keep you informed on "what happens."
Then show your child how you can re-freeze the water.
Let your child play with water. If
you have a backyard, turn on the sprinklers and let your children
run around. Consider buying a small wading pool or bring buckets
of water outside and just have fun getting wet.
Fill up a large bowl or your bathtub
and experiment with your child to see what objects float in
water. Ask your child to choose which household objects will
float and which ones will sink. Let him check if he's right.
If he chooses objects that are not "water-friendly"
discuss why those objects do not belong in the water.
On a sunny day, take little pieces
of old crayons and put them out on a thick piece of paper in
the sun. After an hour, send your child outside to check what
happened.
Take a trip to your local library.
Read
some great new books with your children.
Make sandwiches for supper. Let your
kids choose and make their own sandwiches. (With a "little"
help from Mom or Dad.)
Pack up those sandwiches and have a
picnic in your local park.
