Dad's At Work: The Work Affair

In this drama, Richard (40), a CEO of a high-tech firm, is in love with his work. He loves the power, the energy, and the creativity involved. He needs to throw himself into the challenge of work to feel fulfilled. Sure he values the income, but he values the feeling of satisfaction he gets at work even more. Richard needs work to feel complete, satisfied and whole. His wife, Daphne 33, is an at-home mom. They have two girls, five and nine. Daphne gave up her career as a clothing designer so she could stay home with the kids. She misses work but knows she made the right decision, especially since her husband is out of the home most of the week.

She wants her husband, Richard, to be more involved with his family. She wants a husband for herself and a father for the kids. She wants him to care, to take more interest in what happens at home, and to be home more. You might say that she reacts to Richard as if he's having an affair. However, his affair is with work. It's what turns him on. She feels rejected and abandoned and he feels that she doesn't appreciate him. A subtext is included in the drama to show what Richard and Daphne REALLY think, and do not say to each other.

Daphne wants him to balance work and home life. He's reluctant to do so. His fear is that if he lets up for a second his competitors will surpass him. The more resentful she feels, the more hurt and angry he feels.

Is there a solution for them?
